Locations 30/1/11

Film Locations

For our film opening we need three different locations:
1) An interrogation room
2) A street
3) A dark room for the artifact
The street was the first and easiest location to acquire, as we planned to use my road as it is quiet and we went to film early on Saturday morning. The reason for it being in the morning was due to the difficulty of having to use the pavement as a set and so we needed to film early in order to make sure there was little people around. Other members of our group said they would be busy on that day so the earlier the better. Me and Sachin done the filming that day. the morning was a bonus because the weather was sunny. the glaring sun allowed for the scene where he wakes up and looks directly at the sun.

The second location we want to is the assembly hall in school to film the scene where the “artefact” was found. We want to use this because we can make it really dark and pretend it is a cave/underground area of some sort to add to the enigma and because the hall is large it has an effect even though you may not see it in the dark the audience can feel it. We figured that if we were able to acquire some flashlights and have access to the assembly hall we could turn off the lights and film the scene in there. The only problem we see with using this location is that we have to make sure it is not being used by other people due to the fact that we need the entire space. We hoped to film during our Media lesson so fortunately the hall would most likely to be unoccupied.

The final location which would be used as an interrogation room was difficult to think of where to use, at first we had the idea of using one of the school rooms that had a glass window in order to look inside, however this was a problem due to the school hours that we had and our ability to make the footage seem realistic. If this doesn't go to plan then we will use my living room. we had a problem with the lighting coming across and making it unrealistic.

Marketing and who its for

for our film we needed to find out which audience will be interested in the film and to see if it will be a niche market or wider audience market.  We had to ask them what they wanted and what they were looking for in a film. so we done a questionnaire and asked people using facebook and asking people to complete it:

1)Would you prefer the credits to follow the shape and colour scheme of the movie?

2) do you prefer credits to simply pop up?

3)Do you like when the opening shot is an Aerial shot of the city/town/setting?
4 Do you like long opening scenes or when events progress quickly?

5) Would you prefer diegetic or non-diegetic sounds for the opening scene?

6 Would you like the theme tune to play during the opening credits?
7 Favourite genre?

This is our mood board and shows what the artefacts  would look like and its inspiration. As you can see its has ancient occult signs and symbols as its main inspiration. We drew inspiration from occult writings, greek legends and myths such as pandoras box, ancient egyptian artefacts such as the pyramids and codified objects from modern day era such as rubix cube and coded objects seen in Da Vinci Code. this is an explanation of our mood board.

Existing Product analysis

Existing Product Analysis

We are going to create an adventure mystery thriller hybrid. The film will get the audience asking questions such as ‘where did the artifact come from?’, ‘what does the artifact do?’, ‘what kind of people are after the artifact?’ and so on. Films that were the inspiration were Indiana Jones, National Treasure and Angels and Demons. These films are what we are trying to model our film around however more mystery than action adventure.

The majority of the film would be watched by the audience through a series of flashbacks. The flashbacks will be triggered by the protagonist being interrogated and forced to remember his events starting from how he came into contact with the artifact. A good example of this method in use is from the film Slumdog Millionaire. The audience see the protagonists past and come to realise how he won the TV game show. Likewise, the audience will see flashbacks that will answer questions relating to the storyline and the final outcome.

We would like our credits animated in some way that relates to the spooky and mysterious effect we are trying to achieve. Examples of this are Charmed and Supernatural. They both have smoke mixed in with their text used for the opening credits.

Indiana Jones :
We have chosen to model the idea of involving artifacts from this film because in our film we use one as the main source of attention.

Silence Of The Lambs:
We have chosen to model the idea of having an interrogation scene. The cannibal in Silence Of The Lambs is questioned in the film to reveal answers and help progress through the storyline.
Se7en:
We have chosen to model the idea of using symbols and other text flashing up during our opening credits.

Codes and Conventions
We will conform to things such as:
·         Smoke effects relating to mystery
·         Clues and Evidence
·         Touch voice for interrogator
·         Flashbacks
·         Victim/Protagonist feels weak
·         Dark rooms for interrogation
·         Blood on protagonists shirt
·         Pictures of object of attention around the protagonist
·         Not being able to see the interrogator’s face
·         Bright light on protagonist’s face
·         People fighting for possession of object of attention

The only thing that can be suberted from is that the idea that it is  teenagers looking for an artefact instead of full grown adults. however it is not subverting alot hozever the genre of mystery thriller it is still a popular genre and the stereotypical things are what make it really good in the first place.

Treatment

So this is the final treatment we agreed on.

The film will show how a group of archeologists find an artifact that they have been researching for decades and have gone to look for it after tracking down the location and attempting to take it and study it further. The protagonist is part of the group of archeologists and he is with them as they discover the exact whereabouts of the artifact. The protagonist reaches out to take it but then wakes up tied to a chair with blood stains on his clothes and a bright light on his face. He is being interrogated by another man but he can’t see his face, only his shoes. He is also being forced to look at pictures of the artifact and being made to remember the events leading up to the discovery of the artifact. The majority of the film will be shown through the flashbacks the protagonist has in order to retrace his steps and find out the mysterious power the artifact holds.

MEDIA PRODUCTION OPENING SCENE

Our media Production is called Ignotus. Ignotus is Latin for mystery. we chose Latin because Latin has an archaic feel and meaning behind it. Ignotus is related to the production which is a mystery.

Film Opening Treatment
The film will show the fall of a master criminal who is third in the ‘Most Wanted’ list and how he plans to make his captors pay. The film will start with the illustration of how the mastermind criminal kills a string of people which have no significance to anyone as far as the police are concerned. A few detectives are called in to solve the case but none of them can even find a place to begin. This murder was pulled off almost as if they died of natural causes. Eventually two of the best detectives in the country are called to the scene to try and figure out what has happened and eventually figuring out how the murdered group of people are related and using this to track and put the master criminal behind bars.
As the film continues we see the master criminal under strict 24 hour surveillance however he manages to pull off a string of murders eventually ending up with both of the detectives wives and children are being held hostage drawing the detectives in to attempt to solve each case and leading them realise that it is the mastermind criminal who they took down is taking revenge on them. The master criminal gives them a choice to wither save one family or save both families with the consequence of them having to destroy all records of this mastermind criminal on the database and free him into another country outside of their jurisdiction via private jet.
During each murder the mastermind pulls off the detectives find clues to what has happened and how it happened which lead them deeper and deeper into mastermind criminal’s trap. Whilst working on this case the two detectives figure out how the murders are being pulled off even with the master criminal behind bars. This leads them to figure out that their families are being held hostage and how they save them.
Unfortunately, the detectives make it clear to themselves that there isn’t a way to save both families and accept to destroy the mastermind criminal’s records and get a private jet for the mastermind criminal. The detectives end up saving their families and as the mastermind criminal looks like he is escaping, an unexpected problem with the jet arises thus resulting in the jet crashing and the mastermind criminal’s death.
